Remember as a child how inquisitive, creative exploration was encouraged. As we have aged a lot of us have suppressed that free form thinking and way of expression or have just simply run out of time to foster it. This week we are going to focus on how to release some of that again to gain inspiration and continue to build upon the happiness in our lives.
If you are still keeping up with the Gratitude Photo Project, keep it going! If you aren’t still doing it feel free to pick it
back up at anytime throughout the Challenge.
Action Step:
Set time aside to do nothing.
Creativity happens when your mind is unfocused, daydreaming or idle. This is why we have so many “aha” moments in the shower. Many of us go days without putting our brains on idle. We are busy solving problems or working on activities during the day and glued to our phones or binge watching the latest series released at night.
Over the next two days set time aside to just do nothing. Just “be” without electronics and see where your mind may take you. You might find it more difficult than you thought – but give it at least 5 mins a day. Find a quiet place, lay down on your back (maybe even outside watching the clouds roll by or at night watching the stars) and just let your thoughts be.
Action Step:
Spend time playing.
Over the next two days set time aside for fun and games. Studies have shown that playing can boost your positive mood mindset, making us feel both happier and more inventive. So spend some time playing soccer with some friends, fetch with your dog or join the kids for a game of Jenga.
Action Step:
Take a long walk.
Have you ever felt bored on a walk? Well that might just be what the creative doctor ordered. This is the perfect opportunity to let your mind wander. For this walk to start those creative juices flowing, no gabbing with friends or listening to electronics. Just you and the ground below. If it is not too hot, try walking outside in nature. But if the temp is too high, the treadmill will do just as well too.
Action Step:
Creative Expression.
Spend some time today working on a new form of creative expression for you. By stepping out of your comfort zone into a different experience your perspective and thinking will broaden. Try drawing, painting, writing, dancing, singing, pottery, baking or anything else new that might spark your interest.
